On Friday September 10, 2021 the parish family of St. Colette acknowledged “the day before” the world changed with a most uplifting and patriotic memorial. Fire engines from the surrounding cities lit up the outside of the church as the close to 2,000 flags welcomed a congregation ready to give thanks to God for our beloved country, pray for those who serve it, and remember the day that changed it. Fr. Krizner gave a beautiful reflection about different accounts from September 10, 2001 and how our nations, attitudes, and values were attacked at its core… but that our hearts need to stand firm in God and country as they did on September 12, 2001. His remarks concluded with a tribute to the American Flag in a standing ovation of “God Bless America”.
Privileged, we welcomed Representative Thomas F. Patton who himself has his own ties to American patriotism, love, sacrifice and loss. He reminded us of the gift of those in the line of duty and how that gift should never be taken for granted, but used as inspiration in our day to day life.
We were also fortunate to welcome active and retired military, first responders, and safety forces as guests of honor. Specifically, the cities of Brunswick, Brunswick Hills, Hinckely, North Royalton, and Strongsville were bequeathed the gift of two safety floats that will assist them in rescuing those stranded in water. This was achieved through our “Flags of Thanks” project initiated by Ed Pfahl, our building manger. Ed wanted to find a way to give back to the safety community and make them feel appreciated for all that they do in a society that often demoralizes that community.. The evening concluded in unity, love, and faith… such an opportunity to be grateful and a moving tradition that we will continue in the future. Thank you for joining us!
